Here is my interview to Caridad Barragan, a very successful Live Event Painter. She is a real artist able to catch the very emotional moments of your Wedding Day!
Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi, I’m Caridad Barragan, a professional painter originally from Southern California. I’ve been living in Italy since 1991 and in Umbria for the past 10 years. This year I’m launching my Live Event Painting Services for luxury destination weddings, anniversaries, bar-mitzvahs and corporate events in Italy & Europe.
What exactly is Live Event Painter?
A Live Event Painter is a professional painter that captures the mood and feeling of a scene from your wedding ceremony or reception as it takes place, right before your guests eyes. People are fascinated at watching a painting come to life and many have never had the opportunity to observe anything quite like it. There’s something magical and extremely entertaining about the whole experience.
How did you decide to offer this service?
I read an article on the New York Times last year about Live Event Painting and found it very inspiring. I noticed that there were quite a large number of luxury destination weddings taking place in Italy however I couldn’t find any Live Painters here so thought I could be the first to bring this innovative service to the country.
How do you decide what to paint at a wedding?
Actually, I work very closely with wedding planners or sometimes directly with clients. We talk about exactly what they’d like, the elements they’d like painted in their painting and which family members to include. Foreign couples who choose Italy as their destination wedding location often reside abroad so that means setting up a skype call or two so we can get acquainted and chat about their requests.
So how does a typical wedding painting day play out?
I like to arrive at a wedding venue 3 to 4 hours prior to the arrival of the bride and groom. This gives me plenty of time to set up my area are and start painting in the background so that by the time the first guests arrive they get to see the painting slowly taking form. I will paint at 4-6 hours during the event. The majority of the painting will be painted on the premises. After the event I’ll take the painting back to my studio to give it the finishing touches. Once the painting is finished, I’ll photograph it and send the newlyweds for their approval and then ship it to them. It’s that easy!
What a fresh idea and what better place to paint a wedding than in Italy!
You got it!
So what are your upcoming plans for the next months?
I have a couple of Live Painting engagements in Lazio and Umbria that I’m really happy about. I think 2016 is going to be a great year and I’m looking forward to working with awesome couples
